Welcoming Jennie Kung as Senior Director of the Mayo Clinic Innovation Exchange
June 28, 2022 – Mayo Clinic Innovation Exchange
The Mayo Clinic Innovation Exchange launched two years ago this June, in the early months of a pandemic that has transformed healthcare as much as any sector of human activity. As the Exchange celebrates its second anniversary — and its work with hundreds of innovators, both within and beyond Mayo Clinic’s walls — our team also celebrates the arrival of Jennie Kung as the Exchange’s senior director. Jennie is stepping in for Jared Mueller, the Exchange’s inaugural director, who is leaving healthcare for an opportunity that brings him closer to family across the Northeast and Western U.S.
“We want to acknowledge and thank Jared for his outstanding service. During his tenure, he has built an incredible team that is helping accelerate innovation by connecting innovators inside and outside Mayo Clinic to the very best resources, so their ideas benefit people as quickly as possible. We are excited to welcome Jennie to the Innovation Exchange and leverage her experience to strengthen our position as a globally recognized asset,” says Charles Bruce, M.B., Ch.B., medical director of the Innovation Exchange.

Jennie has spent years in mission-driven healthcare institutions, most recently as a member of Mayo Clinic’s Business Development team, where her work focused on international partnerships. Her extraordinary professional background brings an array of rich experiences to the Exchange — from hospital administrator at UCLA Health where she led UCLA’s innovation initiatives to global product expansion at Johnson & Johnson. Jennie spent the early part of her career in capital markets consulting with Deloitte in London, New York, and San Francisco. She credits her time at The Walt Disney Company, creating world-wide immersive experiences, as inspiration for leveraging design-thinking to reimagine person-centered care innovations.
Jennie is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College and the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC) where she was a Society and Business Fellow. She is a recipient of the prestigious Cambia Health Foundation’s Sojourns Scholar Award in recognition of her commitment to creating innovative solutions that improve the delivery of care to the seriously ill.
Throughout her career, Jennie has mentored M.D.-, Ph.D.-, and MBA-led startups incubated at UCLA and USC across the fields of digital health, remote monitoring, wireless sensing, AI and big data visualization, 3D modeling for pre-operative preparation, and patient engagement.
“The Innovation Exchange is an invaluable gateway for healthcare change makers who share in Mayo Clinic’s deep history of innovation and I am delighted to join this remarkable team at the Exchange who have thoughtfully curated a collaborative ecosystem across the Mayo Clinic enterprise and beyond, says Jennie Kung, senior director of the Innovation Exchange. “Together, we will continue to pave a new path for transformative discoveries and improve the lives of patients around the world.”
